Located in the south-western part of the Indian Ocean, Reunion Island remains for most of the year under the influence of trade winds led by the semi-permanent high pressure of the Indian Ocean. The intensity and characteristics of these dominant southeastern trade winds vary according to the season. During the southern winter (May to November), this anticyclone is most often centered in the southern neighborhood of the Mascarenes and its action can extend to the equator. Without taking into account the highly diversified microclimatic zones generated by the tormented relief of the island, several regions with contrasting rainfall can be observed on either side of the two powerful mountain ranges. When to go? The hottest month for the beach, lazing around and swimming is January. Warning, January is a month with cyclonic risks, heavy showers may occur, otherwise other periods are possible. The coolest month is August, if you can not stand the heat too much. The driest month of the year is September, if you do not like the rain at all.
