Seychelles Islands : climate and when to go to La digue

What is the best time to go to the Seychelles? The Seychelles islands have a tropical warm and humid climate with strong maritime influences. The temperature during the day is constant between 82°F and 86°F.

There is no separate dry season to avoid a shower. Moisture is felt throughout the year. Precipitation increases with altitude, although it is the trade winds that rather impose the climate of the islands. Thus, from May to October, the trade winds of the southeast (monsoon of the South-East) bring a relatively dry period. The peak of tranquility to be the least watered is July / August, there is little precipitation with daytime temperatures of 82°F.

In November (pre-northwest monsoon), winds begin to change and bring warm winds, thus beginning the main rainy season.

Then from December to March (Northwest Monsoon), the Seychelles become extremely humid, especially on December and January, the vegetation is very lush and the sun peaks the skin. It is also the season of cyclones, but the cyclones hardly touch the Seychelles. The calm returns with the hottest month, April (pre-monsoon of the South), the winds calm and change direction.

The temperature of bathing oscillates between 82°F and 86°F throughout the year, only happiness!

The climate is tropical, so hot and rainy, especially on the granitic islands, with a northwestern monsoon from November to March, with a warmer March to May period and a weaker south- is from May to October. The seasons are not very marked and the temperatures are on average 81°F during the day at 72°F at night for the months of July and August (the warmest of the year) and 89°F for the day at 81°F C at night for the months of March and April (the hottest of the year). This archipelago sheltered from cyclones, can wipe off tropical storms (torrential rains) during the rainy season between December and February.

When to go? The hottest month for the beach, lazing around and swimming is April. Check the precipitations because heavy showers may occur, otherwise other periods are possible. The coolest month is January, if you can not stand the heat too much. The driest month of the year is August, if you do not like the rain at all.

The sun at its zenith, that means well perpendicular to the surface of the Earth, sending 100% of radiation and heat. La Digue receives in winter (january),  94%  of sun power and  88%  during summer time (july).

The average temperature and sunshine deviations between summer and winter are 6%. This small gap means that the temperature at sea does not really vary and that the sea remains warm enough in summer and winter. The air is also hot all year round without great thermal amplitude.

Weather uncertainties 2024 to go to La Digue ?

Stormy risks under tropics

Risks of tropical rains and showers
In the tropics, these « storm » or « rain » pictograms indicate that tropical showers or stormy weather are possible. It is difficult to predict the exact local weather in the tropics. This is especially true by the sea and the beach. Consider that more than 180 mm of rain per month is the limit to enjoy the beach on vacation. So check this data provided for each month on the preferred destinations of this site.

When traveling in the tropics as a seaside, rain is not welcome. If you see this indicator, with possible storms, that does not mean that it will rain all day long. When we observe the local rainfall, it is either really zero or very weak. Meteorologists prefer to be pessimistic. So observe below, the skies photographed during a week announced stormy in Asia. It did not rain once. I invite you to integrate this parameter before going to La Digue for a good trip to the sun!
